Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Cavitation is a body treatment with low-frequency ultrasound aimed at local fat deposits, for example on the abdomen, hips, thighs or under the chin. The ultrasound causes pressure changes in the fat tissue that can damage the fat cells, and the body removes the fat gradually. The treatment is often combined with lymphatic drainage. The effect is moderate and gives a few centimetres less circumference after a course, not weight loss.

  • Usually a course of 8–10 treatments, once a week.
  • At least one week between treatments of the same area.

  1. The practitioner goes through your health and which areas will be treated.
  2. The area is measured before the course, so the change can be followed.
  3. Ultrasound gel is applied, and the head is moved over the area in slow movements.
  4. The treatment often ends with lymphatic drainage.

  • Drink plenty of water the day before and on the day.
  • Avoid a large meal just before the treatment.

One area takes about 30 minutes. With lymphatic drainage, the treatment takes 60–90 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

The treatment does not hurt. Many people hear a high-pitched sound and feel slight warmth.

  • Common: slight redness and warmth, and a high-pitched sound in the ears during the treatment.
  • Uncommon: thirst and needing to pass urine more often.
  • Rare: bruising, tenderness or small burns.

  • Drink plenty of water over the next days.
  • Light activity, such as a walk, helps the body remove the fat.
  • Avoid alcohol on the same day.

No downtime. The skin can be slightly red for an hour or two.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • Cavitation is not a weight-loss treatment. The result lasts longest with a stable weight, activity and a healthy diet.
  • The result varies a lot from person to person.

  • Local fat deposits that do not respond to exercise and diet.
  • The abdomen, hips, thighs, arms and double chin.
  • Anyone who is close to their desired weight.

  • Anyone who wants to lose weight. The treatment shapes and smooths, but does not reduce weight.
  • Large amounts of loose skin or fat. Other treatments may then suit better.

The change shows gradually through the course. The result lasts as long as your weight is stable.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • A pacemaker, another electronic implant or metal implants in the area.
  • Liver or kidney disease.
  • Cancer, unless a doctor has cleared you.
  • A current or past blood clot.
  • Infection, wounds or inflamed skin in the area.

Contact the clinic if you get blisters, wounds, severe pain or swelling after the treatment.
