Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Low-level laser, also called LLLT, uses red light with low energy that does not heat or damage the skin. The light is absorbed by the cells of the hair follicles and can support the hair's growth phase. The treatment is used for hereditary hair loss and thinning hair, often together with other treatments.

  • Usually two to three treatments a week for 8–16 weeks.
  • Then maintenance, for example once a week.

  1. The practitioner examines your hair and scalp.
  2. The laser is held over the scalp or fitted in a cap.
  3. You sit still while the light works.

Each treatment takes 15–30 minutes.
