Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Exosomes are small vesicles that cells release to send signals to other cells. In skincare, exosomes from cell culture or plants are used in a serum applied to the skin, often together with microneedling so it reaches deeper. The treatment is used for glow and a more even skin tone, sensitive skin, ageing skin and thinning hair.

  • Usually three to four treatments four weeks apart.
  • Maintenance every three to six months.

  1. The practitioner assesses your skin or scalp.
  2. The skin is cleaned. Numbing cream can be applied.
  3. The skin is treated with microneedling or another method that opens small channels.
  4. The exosome serum is applied and massaged in.

The treatment takes 45–60 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

With numbing cream, most people rate the discomfort 2–4 out of 10.

  • Common: redness, warmth and tightness for a day or two.
  • Uncommon: small marks, dryness or flaking.
  • Rare: irritation, an allergic reaction or infection.

  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser for the first days.
  • Wait until the next day before wearing make-up.
  • Avoid retinol, acids and scrubs for three to five days.
  • Use a high-factor sunscreen.

Usually 1–2 days of redness. The skin can be red and a little tender, as after mild sunburn. Make-up can be worn the next day.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • Research on exosomes in skincare is new. The effect varies, and the evidence is still limited.
  • The result comes gradually and needs a series.

  • Ageing skin with fine lines.

The effect builds up through the series. Many people have a maintenance treatment every three to six months.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Active acne, infection, eczema or wounds in the area.
  • Cancer, unless a doctor has cleared you.
  • Known allergy to the ingredients.
