What It Is
Laser treatment that breaks down tattoo pigment in the skin, allowing the body's lymphatic system to gradually remove it.
Treatment Protocol
- Number of sessions: 6-12+ treatments typically
- Interval: 6-8 weeks (minimum)
- Effect: Gradual fading over months/years
- Total time: 1-2 years for best results
Procedure
- Cleansing of the area
- Local anesthesia or numbing cream (30-60 min)
- Laser pulses over the tattoo
- Cooling during and after treatment
- Bandaging the area

Pain Level
- Description: Like hot grease splattering

- MORE painful than getting the tattoo
- Numbing helps, but not completely
Downtime
- Minimum: 1 week
- Average: 1-2 weeks

- Avoid exercise/swimming 1-2 weeks
Healing Time
Day 0: Intense pain, swelling, white frosting effect
Day 1-3: Continued pain, crust forms, tattoo looks darker
Day 3-7: Crust thickens, DO NOT PICK!, itching common
Week 1-2: Crust falls off, fading visible, pink skin underneath
Week 2-8: Progressive fading, best results 6-8 weeks after
Side Effects
Very common: Intense pain, swelling, bleeding/oozing, crust formation
Common (30-50%): Blisters, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation
Less common: Scarring (5-10%), ghosting
Rare: Allergic reaction to released pigment
Aftercare
First 24-48 hours: Cool the area, keep bandage on, keep dry
First week: Change bandage daily, antibacterial ointment, DO NOT PICK!
Week 1-2: Let crusts fall naturally, SPF 50+ when healed
Between treatments: Protect from sun (CRITICAL)

Who Is This For
- Black or dark blue tattoos (best results)
- Older tattoos (easier to remove)
- Amateur tattoos
- People who can tolerate pain and downtime
- Realistic expectations about gradual fading
Who Is This Not For
- Light colors (yellow, green, white) - difficult to remove
- Very professional, deep tattoos
- Dark skin types (higher risk)
- Pregnancy

Contraindications
- Pregnancy/breastfeeding
- Active infection
- Keloid tendency
- Recent sun exposure
- Dark skin types (IV-VI)
Warning Signs
- Signs of infection (pus, fever)
- Severe swelling
- Blisters that do not resolve
- Increasing pain after 72h
Individual Variations
Very good response (20-30%): Old amateur tattoos, 80-95% fading after 6-8 treatments
Good response (40-50%): Professional black/blue, 70-85% fading after 8-12 treatments
Moderate response (20-30%): Color tattoos, 50-70% fading after 12+ treatments
Poor response (5-10%): Light colors, 30-50% fading or less
Maintenance
- No maintenance needed when series is complete
- Sun protection prevents new pigmentation
- Ghosting may persist permanently
