What it is

Fat-dissolving injections are used on small, defined fat deposits that do not go with exercise and diet, for example on the abdomen, hips, arms or under the chin. The injections break down the fat cells in the area, and the body removes them gradually. The treatment is not weight loss but shaping of defined areas.

  • Usually two to four treatments four to six weeks apart.
  • The price follows the number of areas.

  1. The doctor examines the area and assesses the fat and skin.
  2. The area is marked and cleaned.
  3. Many small injections are placed in the fat.
  4. The area is cooled.

Most people rate the discomfort 4–6 out of 10. It stings and burns for a few minutes after the injections.

  • Common: swelling, tenderness, bruising, numbness and firm areas under the skin for a few weeks.
  • Uncommon: itching or a burning feeling for the first days.
  • Rare: infection, irregularities or small sores in the skin.

  • Cool the area in short sessions for the first days.
  • Avoid hard exercise, saunas and hot baths for 48 hours.
  • Drink plenty of water and keep moving.
