Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

In lymphatic drainage with Endospheres, a device with a rotating cylinder of small silicone spheres is used. The spheres apply rhythmic compression and microvibration, and the practitioner moves the device towards the lymph nodes. The treatment stimulates the lymphatic system and can reduce swelling and fluid retention, for example in the legs and abdomen.

  • Ideally a trial session first.
  • Usually a course of 12 treatments, once or twice a week.
  • Follow-up sessions after a completed course of 12 treatments.

  1. The practitioner goes through your goals and your health.
  2. You may be measured or photographed before the course, so the change can be followed.
  3. The device is moved over the area in set patterns, towards the lymph nodes.
  4. The treatment ends, and you get advice on drinking and activity.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

The treatment feels like a firm, rhythmic massage. Most people rate it 0–3 out of 10.

  • Common: slight redness and warmth of the skin.
  • Uncommon: needing to pass urine more often after the treatment.
  • Rare: small bruises.

  • Drink plenty of water for the rest of the day.
  • Light activity, such as a walk, supports circulation.

No downtime. The skin can be slightly red for an hour or two.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • The treatment is not a weight-loss treatment. It helps most together with physical activity and a healthy diet.
  • If you take blood-thinning medicines, you bruise more easily. Tell the practitioner before the treatment.
  • If you have had surgery in the area recently, check with your surgeon when the treatment can start.
  • With lymphoedema or swelling after cancer treatment, the treatment should be given by a physiotherapist trained in lymphoedema.

  • Fluid retention and heavy, swollen legs.
  • Swelling of the abdomen and body.
  • Anyone who wants a treatment without needles or downtime.

  • Anyone who wants to lose weight. The treatment shapes and smooths, but does not reduce weight.
  • Large amounts of loose skin or fat. Other treatments may then suit better.

The effect builds up through the course and is kept with treatments every three to four weeks.

  • Pregnancy.
  • A current or past blood clot, or inflamed varicose veins.
  • Cancer, unless a doctor has cleared you.
  • Serious heart or kidney disease.
  • A pacemaker or another electronic implant.
  • Infection, a fever or inflamed skin in the area.

Contact a doctor if you get swelling, pain, warmth and redness in one leg, or sudden shortness of breath or chest pain. These can be signs of a blood clot. If you have chest pain or difficulty breathing, call 113.
