Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

A pain laser uses light that penetrates muscles, tendons and joints. The light can affect processes involved in pain, inflammation and repair, and is used for both long-term and recent problems. The treatment is often given together with exercise and other treatment. The effect varies from person to person.

  • Usually six to ten treatments, one to three times a week.
  • The effect is assessed along the way.

  1. The practitioner goes through your symptoms and your health.
  2. You and the practitioner wear protective glasses.
  3. The laser is held against the skin over the area for a few minutes.
  4. If needed, several points are treated.

Each treatment takes 15–30 minutes.
