Expected results

Sweating in the treated area drops a lot within two to four weeks. The effect often lasts 6–9 months in the armpits.

Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

In hyperhidrosis, the body sweats more than it needs to regulate its temperature. Many small injections are placed just under the skin and dampen the signals from the nerves to the sweat glands. Sweating in the treated area then drops a lot. The body still sweats normally elsewhere.

  • One treatment per area.
  • The effect is assessed after two to four weeks.
  • A new treatment when the sweating returns, often after 6–9 months.

  1. The doctor goes through your health and where you sweat.
  2. The area can be marked with a simple sweat test.
  3. The skin is cleaned. Hands and feet are numbed if needed.
  4. Many small injections are spread evenly just under the skin.

  • Shave your armpits two to three days before, not on the day.
  • Do not use antiperspirant for the last day before the treatment.

The treatment takes 20–40 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

In the armpits, most people rate the discomfort 2–3 out of 10. Hands and feet are more sensitive and are therefore numbed if needed.

  • Common: small bruises and tenderness in the area.
  • Uncommon: sweating a little more elsewhere on the body for a period.
  • Rare: after treatment of the hands, the grip can feel slightly weaker for a few weeks.
  • Very rare: an allergic reaction.

  • Do not use antiperspirant for the first day.
  • Avoid hard exercise, saunas and hot baths for the first day.
  • Do not massage the area.

No downtime. Small marks and slight swelling settle within a few hours. You can go back to work the same day.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • A doctor assesses you before the treatment.
  • The treatment reduces sweating in the area where it is given. It does not cure hyperhidrosis.

  • Heavy sweating in the armpits, hands or feet that bothers you in daily life.
  • Anyone who has tried strong antiperspirant without enough relief.

  • Sweating all over the body or night sweats. This must be investigated by a doctor, because it can have another cause.
  • Sweating that started suddenly in adult life, unless a doctor has assessed the cause.

The effect builds up over two to four weeks and often lasts 6–9 months in the armpits, sometimes longer. In the hands and feet it often lasts a shorter time.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Diseases of the nerves and muscles, such as myasthenia gravis.
  • Infection or inflammation in the area.
  • Allergy to the contents or an earlier reaction to this kind of treatment.
  • Some medicines, for example certain antibiotics, can strengthen the effect. Always tell the clinic which medicines you use.

Contact the clinic if you notice signs of infection, such as increasing redness, warmth or pus. Call 113 if you have difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing.
