Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

The treatment combines hyaluronic acid, which binds moisture, with vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients the skin uses in its own renewal. The blend is placed with many small injections into the skin. There are versions for sensitive or damaged skin, glow, ageing skin and the scalp.

  • Usually three to four treatments two to four weeks apart.
  • Maintenance every two to three months.

  1. The practitioner assesses your skin and goes through your health.
  2. The skin is cleaned and disinfected. Numbing cream can be applied.
  3. The product is placed with many small injections into the skin.
  4. The treatment ends with cooling and a soothing cream.

  • Avoid alcohol for the last day and supplements such as fish oil for the last week. This can mean fewer bruises.
  • Come without make-up.
  • Stop using retinol and acids three days before the treatment.

The treatment itself takes 20–30 minutes. With numbing cream, the appointment takes about an hour.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

Most people rate the discomfort 2–4 out of 10. It feels like many small pricks. The practitioner uses numbing cream on sensitive areas.

  • Common: redness, small bumps, tenderness and small bruises where the needle went in.
  • Uncommon: swelling that lasts a few days, especially under the eyes.
  • Rare: infection, an allergic reaction or small lumps that last longer than a few weeks.

  • Do not touch the area, and wait until the next day before wearing make-up.
  • Avoid hard exercise, saunas, hot baths and alcohol for the first day.
  • Use gentle skincare for the first days, and wait three days before using retinol and acids.
  • Use a high-factor sunscreen, and avoid strong sun until the skin has settled.

Usually 1–2 days of small bumps. Small bumps or marks where the needle went in flatten out within one to two days. Small bruises can last a few days. Make-up can be worn the next day.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • Skin boosters hydrate and strengthen the skin from within. They do not add volume or lift sagging skin.
  • The result comes gradually and needs a series of treatments.
  • Skincare at home and sun protection affect how long the result lasts.

  • Dry, tired or dull skin.
  • Skin that needs hydration and glow.
  • Thin hair and a dry scalp, with the scalp version.

  • Anyone who wants volume or contour. Filler suits better.
  • A lot of loose skin. Other treatments may suit better.
  • Anyone who wants a result after a single treatment.

The effect builds up through the series and often lasts two to three months.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Infection, active acne, cold sores or inflammation in the area.
  • Known allergy to any of the ingredients.
  • Bleeding disorders. If you take blood-thinning medicine, tell the clinic.
  • Active autoimmune disease, unless a doctor has cleared you.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling or redness increases after two days, or if you get a fever, pus or blisters. Contact the clinic at once if the skin turns pale, white or bluish.
