Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

The brow is held up by the forehead muscle and pulled down by the muscles around the eye. Small injections in the muscle under the tail of the brow let the brow lift slightly, often 1–2 millimetres. The eyelid can then look less heavy and the eyes more open. The treatment does not lift the eyelid itself.

  • One treatment.
  • A check-up after two weeks, with adjustment if needed.
  • A new treatment after three months at the earliest.

  1. The doctor or practitioner goes through your health, your medicines and your wishes.
  2. You are asked to use the muscles, for example to frown, so the points can be marked.
  3. The skin is cleaned.
  4. Small amounts are injected with a very thin needle at set points.

The treatment itself takes 10–15 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

Most people rate the discomfort 1–3 out of 10. The needle is very thin, and each prick lasts only a moment. Numbing is not usually needed.

  • Common: small bruises, tenderness or a mild headache for the first days.
  • Uncommon: a temporary asymmetry, for example one eyebrow sitting higher than the other. This can often be adjusted at the check-up.
  • Rare: a drooping eyelid or brow if the effect reaches a neighbouring muscle. It wears off by itself, usually within a few weeks.
  • Very rare: an allergic reaction.

  • Stay upright for the first four hours.
  • Do not massage or rub the area for the rest of the day.
  • Avoid hard exercise, saunas and hot baths for the first day.
  • Wait a week before other treatments in the area, such as massage and facials.

No downtime. Small marks and slight swelling where the needle went in usually settle within an hour. You can go back to work the same day.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • A doctor assesses you before the first treatment.
  • The treatment softens the movement that creates the lines. Lines that show even when the face is at rest become softer but do not always disappear completely.
  • The aim is a natural expression. You should still be able to use your face.

  • Brows that have dropped a little with age.
  • Eyelids that look heavy because the brow sits low.

  • A lot of excess skin on the eyelid. Eyelid surgery may suit better.
  • A drooping eyelid caused by weakness in the muscle that lifts the eyelid. This must be assessed by a doctor.

The effect builds up over 3–14 days and usually lasts 3–4 months. Many people have a new treatment when the movement returns. There should be at least three months between treatments.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Diseases of the nerves and muscles, such as myasthenia gravis.
  • Infection or inflammation in the area.
  • Allergy to the contents or an earlier reaction to this kind of treatment.
  • Some medicines, for example certain antibiotics, can strengthen the effect. Always tell the clinic which medicines you use.

Contact the clinic if you get a drooping eyelid, double vision or clear asymmetry in the face. Call 113 if you have difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing.
