Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

In lash extensions, artificial lashes are glued to your own lashes, one at a time. With classic extensions, each lash gets one artificial lash. With volume and mega volume, a small fan of several fine lashes is glued to each lash, for a fuller result. The glue is made for lashes, and nothing is glued to the skin.

  • A new set takes the longest.
  • Refills every three to four weeks, as your own lashes are replaced.

  1. The practitioner goes through the length, fullness and style you want.
  2. The lashes are cleansed, and the lower lashes are covered with a pad.
  3. Artificial lashes are glued to your own lashes, one at a time, while you lie with your eyes closed.
  4. The lashes are brushed and checked at the end.

  • Come without eye make-up.
  • Do not use a lash curler, oil or serum on the lashes on the day.
  • If you wear contact lenses, take them out before the treatment.

A new set takes 1.5–3 hours. A refill takes 45–90 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

The treatment does not hurt. You lie with your eyes closed the whole time.

  • Common: slight redness or stinging of the eyes on the first day, from fumes from the glue.
  • Uncommon: irritation of the eyelids.
  • Rare: an allergic reaction to the glue, with itching and swelling of the eyelids, or an eye infection.

  • Keep the lashes dry for the first 24 hours, and avoid steam and saunas.
  • Clean the lashes gently with an oil-free cleanser, and brush them every day.
  • Do not pull at the lashes, and avoid lash curlers and waterproof mascara.
  • Sleep on your back if you can, so the lashes do not bend.

No downtime. Keep the lashes dry for the first hours.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • The extensions fall out as your own lashes are replaced. This is normal.
  • Length and weight must suit your own lashes, so they are not damaged.
  • Removal is done at the clinic, never by pulling at the lashes.

  • Anyone who wants longer, fuller lashes without mascara.
  • Short, thin or light lashes.

  • An eye inflammation, infection, wounds or strong irritation around the eyes.
  • The first weeks after eye surgery, unless your doctor has said it is safe.
  • Very thin or weak lashes. Heavy extensions can then damage your own lashes.

The lashes stay neat for three to four weeks. A refill fills in where lashes have fallen out.

  • A known allergy to lash glue (cyanoacrylate).
  • An eye inflammation or infection.

Contact the clinic if you get itching, swelling, a rash or watery, red eyes after the treatment. If you get swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing, call 113.
