Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

In a lash lift, your own lashes are curled upwards from the root. The lashes are laid over a small silicone pad on the eyelid, and a solution makes them easy to shape. A second solution fixes the shape. The lashes look longer and more open, without a lash curler or extensions. The treatment is often combined with tinting.

  • The lashes or brows should be clean and free of make-up, oil or serum on the day.
  • If you wear contact lenses, take them out before the treatment.
  • The first time you tint your brows or lashes, or if it is long since last time, you should have an allergy test at least 48 hours before. The practitioner places a little tint behind your ear or in the crook of your elbow.

  1. The lashes are cleansed, and the eyelid is protected.
  2. The practitioner chooses a silicone pad for the length of your lashes and the curl you want.
  3. The lashes are laid over the pad, and the solutions work for a few minutes each.
  4. The lashes can be tinted and cared for at the end.

The treatment takes 45–75 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

The treatment does not hurt. You lie with your eyes closed the whole time.

  • Common: slight redness of the skin for an hour or two.
  • Uncommon: dry or brittle hairs if the treatment is repeated too often.
  • Rare: stinging in the eyes or an allergic reaction to the solution or tint.

  • Keep water, steam and make-up off the lashes or brows for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, steam and hard exercise for the first day.
  • Use a nourishing oil or serum from day two, if you like.

No downtime. Keep the lashes dry for the first day.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • Very short lashes give a less clear result.
  • Wait at least six weeks between lash lifts, so the lashes do not dry out.
  • If your eyes sting during the treatment, tell the practitioner straight away.

  • Straight lashes or lashes that point downwards.
  • Anyone who wants longer, more open lashes without extensions.
  • Anyone who wants to stop using a lash curler.

  • An eye inflammation, infection, wounds or strong irritation around the eyes.
  • The first weeks after eye surgery, unless your doctor has said it is safe.

The curl lasts six to eight weeks, until the lashes are replaced naturally.

  • An eye inflammation, infection or wounds around the eyes.
  • A known allergy to the solutions or the tint.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Many practitioners wait, because hormones can make the result uneven.
