Overview & Procedure

What the treatment is and how it's performed

What it is

Gel nails, acrylic nails and gel polish are removed gently, without damaging your own nails. The polish or gel is filed down, and the rest is dissolved with acetone or gently filed away. The nails are cut, filed and cared for at the end, so they can recover.

  1. The top layer is filed down.
  2. The rest is dissolved with acetone or gently filed away.
  3. The nails are cut and filed.
  4. The cuticles and nails are cared for with oil.

The treatment takes 30–60 minutes.

Experience & Recovery

Pain level, downtime and healing

The treatment does not hurt.

  • Common: dry nails and cuticles after acetone.
  • Rare: tender nails if they are already thin.

  • Apply oil to your nails and cuticles every day.
  • Consider giving the nails a break before new gel.

No downtime.

Expectations & Safety

Who it's for and safety information

  • Do not pick or peel off gel polish or gel nails. This takes layers of the nail with it and makes it thin and weak.
  • If gel has given you itching or a rash, tell the practitioner. It can be an allergy to acrylates.

  • Anyone who wants to remove gel nails, acrylic nails or gel polish.
  • Nails that need a break.

  • Infection or wounds around the nails. Contact a doctor if you see signs of infection.

Contact the clinic or a doctor if you get itching, redness, blisters or swelling around the nails or on the skin, or signs of infection such as pus, warmth and increasing pain.

The nails recover over a few weeks, as they grow out.
